According to the Centre for European Reform, the UK economy is already about 5.5% smaller than it would have been if we’d stayed in the EU.
The Office for Budget Responsibility calculates leaving the Single Market and Customs Union will cause a 4% long-run drop in productivity and a 15% drop in trade intensity. obr.uk
The CER translates that hit into roughly £40 billion a year in lost tax revenues — enough to fill much of the so-called “black hole” in the public finances.

But hey, at least the ‘sovereignty warriors’ got what they wanted: the priceless freedom to drown in paperwork, beg for trade deals we already had, and brag about “taking back control” while the grown-ups quietly calculate how much poorer it’s made us.
In the end, the nationalists who wrapped themselves in the flag managed the rare feat of mistaking self-inflicted damage for patriotism - and they’re still standing there, proud of the wreckage.
