No, it's societal self-defence against the cancer of unconstrained growth in inequality. Trickle down economics is discredited and disproven.
And the psychopathically greedy in particular do everything in their power to hoard wealth, for no useful benefit that I can see.
There is the odd philanphropist like Gates but they're thin on the ground compared to even Victorian times. They used to build libraries and opera houses; now they have a race to space.
