The entitled elite have still not come to terms with losing their influence in the world and spin a fantasy of a great nation that will rise again if only we can burn our bridges with the rest of the worldthrow off the shackles and take back control.
Sadly, people swallow this fake and unfounded patriotism and I understand why; it's a nice fantasy to have that you're innately better than anyone else. However, if it's not tackled at source, it will cripple our ambitions as a nation forever more.
The really patriotic thing to do would be to acknowledge our place in the world - near the top of Class 2 but not good or big enough to be in Class 1. Then acknowledge the reality of the world economy and the only logical conclusion is to strengthen our ties with our close neighbours.
The future is in splendid collaboration not deranged isolation.
