Mandelson created and was the eminence grise of an organisation called Labour Together - billionaire-funded - with the mission of undermining Labour's electoral chances so as to bring about a shift to the right which would be permanent. It's been spectacularly successful. Its tactics have been cheating in internal elections, using its influence and supporters in the Labour machine to ensure its own (very under-qualified and dim* - I personally know a few, spectacular, examples) people get to become - parachuted in - candidates and MPs, and members of the Party's Executive Committee.
(* James Murray MP is excluded from all this)
Starmer-McSweeney was its project from the start (hence the fraudulent campaign to get Starmer elected).
One prominent employee of Labour Together was/is Josh Simons, who became MP for Makerfield. He was most famous for trying to damage journalists who were reporting on how it all worked by reporting them to the security services, fingering them as Russian spies and the like.
FForward to the last 6months. Mandelson's eventual final fall from grace, McSweeney the sacrificial lamb, Starmer next bc it hasn't worked. Labour Together to 'reinvent' itself - new name, new branding.
Croydon is the dark heart of much of Labour Together's shenanigans in local politics, the exemplar. Just google croydod labour scandal - the surface is being scratched.
Abdi Duale on Labour's NEC did it's work blocking Burnham from Gorton. But that couldn't hold, because of the rump of MPs (the ones predating LT) saying "enough" and the fact the membership see Burnham as someone who might restore some of the olde Labour 'values'.
So - informed opinion - they launched 'operation co-opt Burnham'. Simons steps down (will become the new McSweeney, Duale and the rest don't block Burnham because he is now 'their man'.)
Cue rinse and repeat the sort of manifesto Starmer had to get elected to the leadership... gets the gig. Does "a Starmer" and drops each and every one of the commitments he made (see below for what Starmer's were).
Their plan is: We end up with Burnham PM doing the work of Mandleson, back even deeper in the hedge and their billionaire backers in precisely the same way Starmer did.
The result though: The country does not see the changes it requires, they pave the way for Reform.
