None of them (I've had the discussion) believe in univeralism. They are in Labour for their careers, in the Party and outside the Party and afterwards.
I recently bumped into another chap - lovely lad who was a member local to me but couldn't contribute in any political way to debates - just couldn't, didn't have any politics, just wanted to be in and around them, to make a career. No philosophical underpinning. He was an MP's caseworker at the time.
To my surprise, he's now a political advisor in Downing St. When I asked him why everything was like "we won't change much", he said, well they want to occupy the centre and right of centre 'forever', not offend the newspaper proprietors and just keep getting elected. So the "change" people voted for was - of course - a fraudulent offer.
Labour is currently to the right of Cameron's govt, and of course the other trad parties have moved even more rightwards.
